For our youngest future scientists, we focus on fun and exploration! Students engage in hands- on activities designed to foster their fascination and curiosity, through popular topics that capture the imagination. Students will grow in confidence as they develop the fundamental scientific skills of observation, testing, and teamwork. Each session focuses on one subject. Each 8-week block features a selection from our core range of STEM fields: chemistry, biology, astronomy, physics, inventor/creator (engineering), geology, paleontology, archaeology, geography, environmental science, robotics, and programming.

Space Explorers & Chemistry Capers!

For our young scientists, we focus on fun and exploration! Students engage in hands-on activities designed to foster their fascination and curiosity through core STEM themes in chemistry, biology, astronomy, physics, engineering, and environmental science, that capture the imagination.

Week 1:

Earth, Moon, and Sun: model the relative movements of the earth, moon, and sun.

Week 2:

Asteroids! Learn how to model an asteroid using modeling clay.

Week 3:

Journey to the Center of the Earth: Students create a model of earth, showing layers to the core.

Week 4:

Rockets! Make air pump rockets.

Week 5:

Marvelous Mixtures! Students combine solids and liquids in a scientific test to discover which combination creates the most fizz.

Week 6:

Color Chemistry: Kids engage in candy science with exploratory play. Guaranteed serious wow moments!

Week 7:

Blow up balloons: Did you know that you can inflate a balloon WITHOUT blowing air into it? How cool is that!?

Week 8:

Slime! Students make careful measurements as they follow instructions to make slime, then experiment to find the perfect recipe.

Engineers, Builders & Roboticists!

For our youngest future scientists, we focus this session on engineering, building and robots. By the end of this 8 week session, after some trial and error, students will be able to tackle moving an egg through an obstacle course using all the engineering skills they learned throughout the course.

Week 1:

What is a machine?: Students are introduced to the concept of machines and how they integrate into our everyday lives.

Week 2:

Pulleys: Students learn how to build a pulley and how to make work easier!

Week 3:

Levers: Students learn how to build a lever and how to use them to lift objects heavier than the force exerted!

Week 4:

Wheels and axles: students build a small car that carries an egg!

Week 5:

Robotics I: Students learn how robots work and how to code simple robots called Codey.

Week 6:

Robotics II: Students continue to learn coding and various functions of their Codey robots.

Week 7:

Builder Challenge I: Students utilize what they've learned to design a machine to move an egg from one end of the table to the other.

Week 8:

Builder Challenge II: Students finalize their machines to move the egg without breaking it!
